Description
This loop is a genuine mountain hike. From Loza, the central square of Lagkada, the path climbs east through Chalinaras, an area of old stone buildings once tied to farming and craft work — potteries, threshing floors, wells and cisterns.
The trail climbs between dry-stone walls shaded by tall oaks before reaching the Theologos plateau. The Byzantine-era monastery of Agios Ioannis Theologos overlooks the plateau and is celebrated every September 26th. The route then circles Mount Skopos, passes close to the impressive Vothonas chasm, and descends back to Lagkada past the chapels of Agia Zoni and Panagia Epanochoriani.
